“One of my most cherished childhood memories is walking amongst the cacao trees surrounding my family home. I remember the lush and green cacao fields, the bittersweet scent of the cacao pods, and the rich aromas of roasted beans,” says Jassil Villanueva Quintana. “It’s this memory I wanted to recreate with the first edition of Colección Visionaria.”

The toasting method, unique to Brugal, commences with the careful selection of superior virgin European oak casks. Each cask undergoes a meticulous toasting process utilizing exclusively hand-picked Dominican cacao beans, which impart their natural and aromatic essence. Subsequently, the cacao beans are removed before introducing the rum into the toasted barrels. This procedure infuses the liquid with captivating aromas resulting from the intricate toasting process. The rum is then aged under the radiant Dominican sun until it reaches optimal perfection. This innovative technique imbues an additional layer of complexity and profundity to the spirit without direct contact between cacao beans and rum itself.
