After seven outstanding years in Spain, the International Rum Conference (IRC) has made its exciting migration to the U.S., with the aim of bringing industry leaders and rum enthusiasts together in a location that more closely neighbors the geographic and historical roots of this venerated beverage. The newly-renamed, inaugural U.S. event took place from September 25th through September 28th at the stunning Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, FL. The conference showcased over 200 rums from around the world and welcomed approximately 2,000 attendees.
From September 25th through September 26th, informative masterclasses were offered to educate members of the industry on rum production and the great variety of rum types exhibiting at the event. From September 27th to the 28th, general attendees and aficionados participated in the rum-making festival and rum-tasting contest.
Attendees had access to myriad interactive programs and showcases designed for exploring rum culture, its arcane processes and the broader rum industry in depth. Tickets to the public were available at $75 per day or $125 for both days, and trade tickets ranged from $50 to $400, depending on program access desired. It was an illuminating and geographically resonant experience for producers, as well as all those seeking insight into the craft of rum production and its unique place in the beverage industry.
