Meet Luz Maria Perez, the talented bartender lighting up the room at @mamatriedbar! 🍹✨

Born and raised in Miami to a Colombian mother and Dominican father, Luz embodies the rich tapestry of Hispanic culture. Her journey in the bartending world began at 19, breaking barriers as one of the few Latinas at a popular American sports bar. Fast forward to today, and she’s crafting exquisite cocktails at Mama Tried, living her dream! 🌟

Luz’s connection to her roots runs deep. She frequently travels to Colombia, cherishing moments at her uncle’s finca. She cherishes her memories of waking up to the gentle lowing of cows, the clucking of chickens, and the aroma of fresh, homemade soup wafting through the air. These experiences have shaped her appreciation for authenticity and flavor.

Speaking of which, Luz swears by a traditional Colombian hangover cure - a mix of Colombian soda and beer, affectionately called “refajo.” But nothing beats her abuelita’s homemade tamales, a dish that holds a special place in her heart. 🥟❤

Just as she nurtures her garden at home, Luz approaches bartending with the same dedication and care. She sees each cocktail as a bloom waiting to unfold, crafting drinks with passion and precision. 🌱🍸

At Mama Tried, Luz has found more than just a workplace - it’s a launchpad for her dreams. The supportive environment has opened doors, including her first guest bartender pop-up at the late, great Beaker & Gray.

As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re proud to showcase Luz’s story. She represents the vibrant Latin community in the bartending world, bringing cultural richness and diversity to every glass she serves.

Stop by Mama Tried to experience Luz’s craft firsthand and join us in celebrating the incredible Hispanic heritage that flavors our community! 🎉🇨🇴🇩🇴

Special thanks to @ilegalmezcal for supporting local Latin talent and local Latin businesses. It was a great pleasure to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month with all of you 🙏🏽

From shaking cocktails to shaking hips, Kenny Alexander’s journey is a vibrant celebration of Hispanic heritage! 🍹💃

Born in the Bronx and now managing @ScapegoatBar in Miami Beach, Kenny’s story is as rich and colorful as the culture he embodies. His path from busboy to bartender mirrors the resilience and determination ingrained in his Latin roots.

But it’s the memories of big family gatherings that truly stir Kenny’s soul. Picture this: a house filled with laughter, the aroma of abuela’s cooking, and cousins from all corners coming together. These moments, where salsa rhythms blend with the clinking of glasses, shaped Kenny’s love for both mixology and dance.

For 10 years, Kenny lived his passion as a professional salsa dancer, letting the beats of his heritage guide his steps. Now, he infuses that same energy into crafting unforgettable experiences behind the bar.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, Kenny’s heading back to his roots – visiting family, embracing grandparents, and savoring those childhood flavors that taste like home. It’s a reminder that no matter where life takes us, our cultura is the heartbeat that keeps us moving.

Here’s to Kenny and all the beautiful stories that make up our Hispanic tapestry. May we always dance to the rhythm of our heritage! 🎉🇵🇷
